I wasn’t really sure what it meant to be a chiropractor until I ended up at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. But first let me tell you how I got there… I was a three sport athlete in high school and was recruited by colleges to play either basketball or tennis, but didn’t know which to choose. So I decided to go to the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, a division two college, where they would allow me to play both. I went to college with the idea that I was going to major in psychology and after switching my major a couple of times I was still unsure what I wanted to be when I grew up. After three years of playing tennis and basketball at the collegiate level (which meant nearly 4 hours of practice a day sometimes more when the seasons overlapped) my body decided enough was enough and I ended up with major back pain. The pain was so bad it kept me from even being able to bend over to tie my shoes. After visits to several medical doctors, physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons and osteopaths I was left with the same answer “we can’t find anything wrong.” It was then that I was seen by a chiropractor. I felt immediate relief from my back pain and played a basketball game pain free for the first time in 3 months. Needless to say I knew what my major was going to be, finished up my remaining class requirements (organic chemistry-yuck!) and enrolled in Chiropractic College. I have been serving people with my head, heart and hands ever since.
